What do I need to do to prepare my car for Chipex repair paint?

There are only two things you need to be aware of when it comes to your original paintwork, to make sure you achieve the perfect repair paint work:

  • Firstly, you always need to be certain that the area you’ll be working on is thoroughly cleaned and dry. And no, not just ‘looking clean’; you need to give it a proper wash and make sure that it’s spotless! That’s because any dirt, lumps, bumps or debris left behind will get in the way of the smooth, precise repair paint finish you’re trying to achieve. It makes sense; to achieve a seamless, smooth paintwork repair, you need to apply it to a totally smooth surface.

  • Then, you also need to make sure that there are no substances currently affecting your car’s paintwork that might damage how effectively your repair paint works. Is car paint is applied on top of certain substances it can end up congealing or becoming too bumpy. Things you need to look out for are waxy materials and polish, so if you’ve used either on your car recently, make sure they’ve been properly removed - and keep an eye out to make sure that whatever you wash your car with is wax free.
